Dollar General not switching to 24-hour operation

Facebook posts claim Dollar General recently announced that all stores will stay open 24 hours a day. This is false; the US chain told AFP the posts are incorrect and that hours vary by location.
 

"Aug, 13, 2022 8:37 pm (NewsBrief) DOLLAR GENERAL announces plans to convert all stores to 24 hours a day," says text in a photo shared August 14, 2022 on Facebook. "Starting Monday August 22 all Dollar General stores will start to stay open around the clock and they will have some new expanded merchandise."

The post accumulated more than 1,000 shares. The same claim has circulated elsewhere on Facebook.

But Dollar General told AFP the posts are false.

"Dollar General stores are not and do not have any current plans to be open 24 hours per day," a public relations representative told AFP.

The spokesperson said store hours vary by location and can be found on the Dollar General website, which does not include an announcement resembling the one shared online.
