Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan was actually attending the funeral of his long-serving manager

A photo has been shared thousands of times in multiple posts on Facebook which claim it shows a Bollywood star carrying the body of his “servant who worked for 40 years in [his] house” at his funeral. The claim is misleading; the photo actually shows the funeral for Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan’s manager, who died in June 2019.

The photo was published in this Facebook post on June 25, 2019, and it has been shared more than two thousand times.

It shows Amitabh Bachchan carrying a body wrapped in sheets alongside his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan.

The post’s caption states: “Servant who worked for 40years in Amitabh's house passed away yesterday. His body is carried by both Amitabh (Super Star Bollywood) & Abhishek ... money isn't everything...few people stand for human values.”

The same photo was also shared alongside a similar caption on Facebook here and here.

The photo was published on Twitter here with a similar claim.

The claim is misleading; the photo actually shows the funeral for Bachchan’s manager, Sheetal Jain, who died in June 2019.

The same photo was published on Amitabh Bachchan’s blog here on June 8, 2019.

The blog states in part: “He carried the burden of my work for almost 40 years .. gentle, diligent, humble and the picture of sincerity and honesty .. today I carried him to his last journey ..

“Sheetal Jain my Manager, Secretary through thick and thin , passed away this morning after a short but severe battle in Hospital .. and flashes of his association through these 40 years , as a member of the family swept by ..”

The same photo of Jain’s funeral was also published here by India Today on June 10, 2019.

The article’s first line states: “Amitabh Bachchan penned an emotional note for his secretary and producer Sheetal Jain, who died in Mumbai on Saturday. He said that Sheetal worked hard and had "gentle manners".
