The 45-second video, which shows a large crowd in front of a stage, was tweeted here on January 27, 2023, where it has been viewed more than 128,000 times.
The Indonesian-language caption reads: "Let's join the big wave of a coalition of change to welcome a better Indonesia. Today in Banten, with Brother Anies."
Former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan -- a presidential hopeful in Indonesia's 2024 election -- visited Banten province, near Jakarta, in January 2023.
The video has been watched more than 110 times after it appeared alongside a similar claim elsewhere on Twitter here and here, and on Facebook here and here.
But the claim is false.
Motorcycle club event
In the clip, the logo of video-sharing app SnackVideo and the username "yhjmn070" are visible.
A search on the platform found this video uploaded by the user yhjmn070 on October 9, 2022.
The video's caption reads "jamda 3", which refers Jambore Daerah III -- a gathering hosted by Yamaha RX-King Indonesia (YRKI) motorcycle club in Yogyakarta, as reported by local news outlet Solopos on the same day.
A reverse image search using keyframes from the video found that a similar clip was posted on YRKI's social media accounts on October 10, 2022, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
All of YRKI's posts are captioned: "Congratulations and Success in Organising / 3rd Regional Jamboree / Yamaha RX-King Indonesia (YRKI) / Yogyakarta Province Regional Chapter".
The motorcycle club's video was taken from a slightly different angle but shows the same scenes as those in the clip shared in misleading posts and on SnackVideo.
Below is a screenshot comparison of the video in the misleading post (top left), the original clip on SnackVideo (top right), and the YKRI video on Facebook (bottom):
Geolocation investigation
YRKI posted a flyer announcing Jambore Daerah III on Facebook here on October 5, 2022, saying that the event would take place on October 7-9 at the parking area of Maguwoharjo Stadium, in Sleman regency, Yogyakarta.
The video in the misleading posts contains three items that AFP has marked with different colours for geolocating the clip, as seen in the screenshot below:
The fire engine seen in the misleading posts -- marked by the blue square -- carries the same markings as those owned by the local government in Sleman, as seen in a local media report here.
AFP geolocated the buildings -- marked with the light green and the red squares -- to the Yogyakarta Laboratorium of the Agricultural Technology Assessment Agency (BPTP) -- opposite Maguwoharjo Stadium.
The satellite view of Google Maps shows the aerial view of the laboratorium buildings and the stadium.
Maguwoharjo Stadium -- marked by AFP in orange -- is also visible in the video and corresponds with the photo of the stadium on Google Street View:
Visit to Banten
Anies posted photos of his visit to Banten on January 24-25, 2023, on his Instagram account here, here and here.
His trip was also covered by local media outlets, including here, here and here.
None of the images shared by Anies or featured in media reports resembled the scenes in the Yogyakarta video.
AFP has repeatedly debunked false claims related to Anies, such as here, here and here.
