An image has been shared hundreds of times in multiple Facebook posts which claim it shows a news report about Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo becoming “upset like a child” over the lack of Saudi Arabian investment in his country. The claim is false: the image in the misleading posts has been doctored from a news report which stated Jokowi was "disappointed" by the level of Saudi Arabian investment in Indonesia.

The image was published in this Facebook post on July 1, 2019. It has been shared more than 300 times.

Below is a screenshot of the misleading Facebook post:

The misleading post includes what purports to be a screenshot of a news report headlined “‘Disappointed’: the stupid president of Indonesia jokowi upset like a child That saudi invest in china more than indonesia”.

Indonesian language text on the image states: “Foreign media calls Jokowi like a child and stupid. Has Indonesia lost its dignity?”

The Indonesian-language caption accompanying the image states: “This foreign publication has just found out… We, the people of Indonesia, have known for a long time that he and his followers are stupid… Only the infidel media of Indonesia says he is wise and clever… To those who are not Jokowi’s people, let’s laugh together #rejectjokowi.”

Jokowi won a second term in elections held on April 17, 2019. Here is an AFP report about the poll published on May 21, 2019.

The same image also appeared in the following Facebook entries: here, here and here with a similar claim.

The claim is false; the image in the misleading post has been doctored from this article published by news outlet Asian Correspondent in April 2017.

The report's original headline states: “‘Disappointed’: Jokowi upset that Saudi invests in China more than Indonesia”. The altered headline in the misleading posts includes the additional phrases: “The stupid president of Indonesia” and “upset like a child”.

The doctored image has the “Asian Correspondent” logo above headline, but in white rather than black, and on a red background. The original logo is red and black on a white background.
