Award-winning Filipino singer Gary Valenciano was falsely reported to have died, the latest local celebrity to be wrongly declared dead. The reports were proven wrong when he performed in public.

Multiple websites such as this reported that Valenciano has died.

When shared on Facebook, one of the reports had this thumbnail image and a headline that read: “Just in: Gary Valenciano died due to heart failure after having a heart operation. 1964-2018”.

Clicking on a link that accompanies the Facebook post leads to a webpage with the same headline and a video of an interview with Valenciano.

In the clip the performer says that he underwent a successful heart surgery and treatment for kidney cancer.

Another report also claiming Valenciano has died, attributes his death to diabetes. The various posts have been shared on Facebook pages with combined followers of at least 38,000.

However, since the reports emerged, Valenciano has performed publicly, according to his Facebook page.

Valenciano’s wife and manager, Angeli Pangilinan Valenciano, told AFP this post was authentic.

“Gary is alive and is performing today," she said on July 17.
