A photo has been shared tens of thousands of times in multiple posts published on Facebook in the Philippines, Pakistan and Nigeria in 2019 which claim it shows the Australian prime minister breastfeeding while giving a speech in parliament. The claim is false; the photo shows Australian senator Larissa Waters breastfeeding her baby in 2017 -- not the Australian prime minister, who is a man.

The photo was published in this Facebook on July 12, 2019. It has been shared more than 24,000 times.

Below is a screenshot of the misleading post:

The post's caption states: “Australian Prime Minister breastfeeding her baby while delivering a speech at the Parliament. Mothers can do anything for their babies…!!”

The same photo was shared by a Facebook account in Nigeria here and in Pakistan here with a similar claim.

The claim is false; the photo shows Australian senator Larissa Waters breastfeeding her baby in 2017.

A reverse image search on Google found the photo published in this article on June 22, 2017, on the website for British newspaper The Telegraph.

The article contains a video which shows Larissa Waters, an Australian senator with the Greens party, breastfeeding her baby while talking about black lung disease.

Below is the video, which was sourced by The Telegraph via Storyful from the Australian Senate:

Waters can be seen breastfeeding her baby at the four seconds mark in the video.

The photo of Waters breastfeeding was also used in this article published by Buzzfeed on June 22, 2017.

Waters tweeted on June 22, 2017 about how she breastfed while addressing the Senate.

The incumbent prime minister of Australia is Scott Morrison. He was sworn in as prime minister on August 24, 2018.
