Visuals of Donald Trump's motorcade in Scotland misrepresented as former Bangladeshi PM's convoy in Delhi

Bangladesh's former prime minister Sheikh Hasina has been living in exile in neighbouring India since her ouster in a student-led protest in August 2024, but a video of heavily-guarded motorcade movement does not show her convoy in Delhi, contrary to claims circulating online. The visual appeared in reports about US President Donald Trump's July 2025 Scotland visit and Hasina has not been spotted in public since she fled to India.

"Today, June 6, 2026, Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left her residential building for Hotel Diplomat in Delhi under tight security for important meetings with various international organisations," reads a Bengali-language Facebook post shared on June 6.

The post that was shared more than 500 times shows a convoy of vehicles moving in a single file.

The clip circulated in similar Facebook posts after Indian news outlet Hindustan Times quoted the former prime minister, via an e-mail interview, saying "the return of Awami League is inevitable" (archived link).

Hasina's political party -- Awami League -- was outlawed in Bangladesh on May 10, 2025, citing its involvement in violent attacks on student protests that led to her fall from power in August 2024 (archived link).

In another interview with Indian Bengali news outlet Ei Samay publlished on June 9, the Bangladeshi leader said she will not retire from active politics (archived link)

The former prime minister remains in self-imposed exile in India and has defied an arrest warrant from Dhaka over charges of crimes against humanity (archived link).

AFP could not immediately independently verify if Hasina went to the Hotel Diplomat on June 6.

But the video actually shows US President Donald Trump's motorcade in Scotland in July 2025, not Hasina's entourage in Delhi.

Trump's Scotland visit

The words "Turnberry, UK" and The Associated Press are visible on the video shared in the post.

A keyword search on the official YouTube channel of AP found a longer version of the same video published on July 26, 2025, with a caption reading, "Trump's motorcade heads for Turnberry after his arrival in Scotland" (archived lnk).

Subsequent keyword searches found the same video distributed by visual media agency  Getty Images with a caption reading, "Trump's motorcade heads for Turnberry after his arrival in Scotland (archived link)".

Video's description mentions the US President was visiting "his Trump Turnberry golf course" and "Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire", during his Scotland trip from July 25 to 29.

Trump spent five days in Scotland playing golf, opening a new course and inking a major trade deal with the European Union (archived here, here and here).

AFP found visuals from the false post video matches with a Google Street View imagery of the road near the Trump Turnberry Apartments intersection (archived link).
