Stray animals are one of the major causes of traffic accidents on Indian roads. But a video circulating on social media showing bulls rampaging down a street and damaging a luxury car was made with AI. The clip's creator said he made the video "for fun and entertainment".
"Bull destroys Lamborghini near Gurugram's HUDA City Centre," reads Hindi-language text over a video shared on Instagram on October 5, 2025.
The clip that racked up more than 1.8 million views shows a bull jumping over and damaging a luxury car on a busy road before running off with another.
India ranks top in road fatalities globally, with more than 480,000 accidents reported in 2023 -- an increase of 4.2 percent compared with 2022 -- killing more than 172,000 people (archived link).
Local media reported that animals roaming on roads and poor lighting are major causes of traffic accidents in Delhi, with crashes and disruptions caused by cattle straying on carriageways in the capital and neighbouring areas (archived here, here, here and here).
The false video also spread on Facebook and Threads, with comments suggesting some users believe the video shows a genuine incident.
"No one is safe on Indian roads," one user commented.
"If it had happened abroad, the bull owner would have been jailed and would have had to pay for the damage to the vehicle as well," wrote another.
But visual inconsistencies on the video -- such as gibberish text on signboards and shifting backgrounds as the camera moves -- indicate it was created with the help of AI tools.
In another sign that the footage was fabricated, the car's roof caves in when the bull jumps on it, but appears undamaged after it steps off.
A combination of reverse image and keyword searches found the original video posted on an Instagram account on October 4, which identified its owner as an "AI Filmmaker" (archived link).
The clip is captioned "Angry cow damages a Lamborghini in India".
The account owner told AFP on October 10 he made the clip using AI, saying he made it for "fun and entertainment".
"I use tools like Sora2, Go and Higgsfield.com," he went on to say.
Despite the meteoric rise in AI technology, visual errors such as distorted text still appear. Careful examination of an image is a key tool for determining authenticity.
AFP has previously debunked fabricated content created with AI.
