This photo shows a road in an Australian national park

A photo of a winding road has been shared hundreds of times in Facebook posts that claim it shows a scenic route in rural Sri Lanka. The claim is false; the photo shows a road that passes through Flinders Chase National Park in South Australia.

The photo was shared in this Facebook post published on September 26.

"Habarana Minneriya road / aerial photograph," the Sinhala-language caption reads.

Habarana and Minneriya are towns in north-central Sri Lanka.

The same image has circulated in similar Facebook posts since 2016, as seen here and here.

However, the photo actually shows a road in South Australia.

A reverse image search on Google found this entry on Flickr uploaded on June 1, 2012.

It is titled "Road on Kangaroo island". It was uploaded by a user who describes herself as an Australia-based graphic designer.

The image's metadata shows it was captured at the Flinders Case National Park in South Australia.

The image corresponds with this Getty Images photo of the same road.

The same image has previously circulated alongside a false claim it shows a scenic road in Kenya, as debunked here by AFP.
