This video shows a 3D animation and not an actual human eye under a microscope

A video has been viewed thousands of times in multiple Facebook,  YouTube and Twitter posts that claim it shows a clip of the human eye under a microscope. However, the claim is false; the video is actually a 3D animation created by an artist, who confirmed it does not show an actual eye.

The 45-second video was shared in a Facebook post on August 15, 2021.

Its caption reads: "This is your eye under Microscope".

An identical video was also shared alongside a similar claim on Facebook here, on YouTube here, and on Twitter here and here where it gained more than 12,000 views.

Comments on the posts suggest people believed the video shows an actual eye.

"Wow that is weird and yet fascinating at the same time," one user wrote.

However, the claim is false.

Reverse image and keyword searches reveal the clip was originally posted on Instagram by US-based 3D artist Frank J. Guzzone in 2018.

Guzzone confirmed to AFP he made the 3D animation.

"I created this animation back in 2018. It is a 3D rendering I made from scratch. It is not an actual eye," he said on August 30.

AFP has debunked similar claims in Arabic here in January 2021.

Further keyword searches found similar posts have also been debunked in 2019 by the science website Interesting Engineering here and Hoaxeye.com here.
